You Can't Beat Concrete

Another weekend passed down here at Elk & Wolf and with it another great workshop, this time from Glasgow based creative design platform, Who Art Thou. With their stripped back approach to lifestyle and homeware products we couldn't wait to see what came out of their unique concrete planter workshop.

Needless to say we were not disappointed - especially our very own Abby who was lucky enough to join in!

With Glasgow based artist Amy Mae taking the helm, turning concrete into something creative became easy and approachable. The technique allowed for a choice of shape, which was then turned into a quirky mould for the concrete to be poured into - but only after a small pot had been secured inside, ensuring a cosy and cool home for the succulent to sit in. Mixing and pouring the concrete is a fairly quick process which allowed plenty of time for painting and planting: the all important finishing touches.

Who knew a handful of concrete could look so good?
Sunday's group of workshoppers were lucky enough to get double the bang for their buck, picking up Amy's concrete techniques quickly meant enough time to make two planters and more chance to experiment with shapes, colours and wee succulents.

Our collaborative workshops offer you the chance to meet with like-minded people, connect with creative Scottish businesses and learn about something new. But most importantly, you get something handmade and unique to take home with you to brag about - I know I'd be pretty pleased taking home a bit of concrete arm candy!

With some of our store away down south just now representing our sister (Miss Katie Cupcake) at Glastonbury, we have been pretty pre-occupied with our summer preparations. We hope to bring you some more brilliant events and experiences soon though, so make sure you stay up to date with us -
