Terrific Terrariums

Last Saturday, we welcomed the brilliantly boho Little Botanica to Elk & Wolf for our terrarium workshop.

With hygge very much "in vogue", they have recently been hosting a series of seasonal workshops over Autumn/Winter and we couldn't wait for them to join us in Edinburgh.

Gathering our guests, we cracked open the fizz to dig a little deeper into the history of terrariums and learn how to assemble one to take home. The soil and creativity were both flowing freely as everyone as rolled up their sleeves, eager to create their own story.

Terrariums are on trend, but they are not necessarily a new one.  They originally proved popular to protect against foggy London-town pollution in the Victorian era. It was discovered that creating this "mini greenhouse" effect shielded the plants enough to root and flourish even despite harsh/polluted conditions.

Everyday is a school day, right?

Fast forward until now and they are saved on pinterest boards around the country and an ideal choice for a slightly different spin on a gift that effortlessly oozes style.

Today terrariums come in every conceivable shape and size and can be enjoyed as a wall-mount feature or central attraction in any home. The ladies from Little Botanica were also keen to share knowledge on succulent/plant care to ensure that our freshly planted masterpieces would survive the threat of the Scottish winter chill!

We love that our workshops have a relaxed, homely feel and that we get to celebrate our creations together. Rest assured you will always pick up some additional skills and lifestyle/homeware tips, all within a beautiful environment chatting to new friends. We are proud to be able to offer this within our stunning shop space here at The Arches.

Keep your eyes peeled on social media for future dates with Little Botanica that will be added for 2017, so if you missed out this time around you can make sure that you save a spot in your diary.

We are also planning to collaborate on something special for the summer-we'll keep you posted!

We hope that you have found the perfect perch for your freshly filled terrariums. If you like, why not tag or tweet us in a picture of your terrarium at home. If you enjoyed this workshop and would like to tell us why, feel free to get in touch at
